Most importantly is that you do the 24-hour fasting after a day in which you have had all 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
What if you can’t do a 24-hour intermittent fasting?
Don’t be so harsh on yourself, especially when it’s your first time with intermittent fasting. Try going for 18 hours at first without calories. If you succeed several times, then it’s time to go for a 20-hour fast.
